We took the handmade pledge!

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

What is it?
Buyhandmade.org is a collaboration between Etsy, Craftster, indiepublic, Craft Magazine, Interweave, Burdastyle, The Austin Craft Mafia, Design*Sponge, and The American Craft Council, nine prominent forces in the DIY and handmade worlds. Calling ourselves The Handmade Consortium, we have banded together to encourage people to buy handmade this holiday season.

The ascendancy of chain store culture and global manufacturing has left people all dressing, furnishing, and decorating alike. The connection between producer and consumer has been lost. Buying handmade helps them reconnect. We created the pledge as a call to action for consumers to be conscious of how they spend their money this holiday season. We want people, whenever possible, to support independent creators and shop outside the big boxes.

The Benefits of Safflower Oil

Posted by Lauren No comments

The Safflower Plant

Look out Almond oil, there’s a new oil in town that is great for the skin!

Safflower oil, which is produced from the seeds of the Safflower plant, is a natural emollient that is wonderful for your skin. This odorless oil is mild and has a very light texture, so it easily absorbs into the skin and acts as a protective barrier to help retain your skin’s moisture. It works with your skin to soften dryness, smooth roughness and aid in relieving some skin problems.

One of the benefits of Safflower oil is that it is one of the highest sources of Linoleic acid than found in any other types of vegetable oil. Linoleic acid has become increasingly popular in the beauty products industry because of its beneficial properties on the skin. Research points to linoleic acid’s anti-inflammatory, acne reductive, and moisture retentive properties when applied topically on the skin. Oils that are high in Linoleic acid are said to be a great natural treatment for Eczema — a skin condition which causes dryness and recurring skin rashes that can be quite painful.

It’s pretty much an awesome oil which is why we use it in some of our products. We’re currently working on making a 100% natural soothing body butter. It’s made from natural Shea butter, Cocoa Butter, Safflower oil, Grapeseed oil (another oil high in Linoleic acid), Coconut oil, Vitamin E, and a small amount of Peppermint essential oil for a cooling sensation that is sure to help calm and relief any irritated skin. Look for it soon!
